More than 250,000 carers will benefit this week from the UK’s largest roll-out of digital support.
North East residents who care for a relative or loved one will gain free access to a new tech-powered scheme which will provide them with tailored support and guidance.
13 local authorities in the region will introduce the Mobilise scheme, which provides an additional layer of round-the-clock support for those with caring responsibilities.
Erik Scollay, Strategic Director of Adult Social Care and Health Integration at Middlesbrough Council, said:
“We will be able to do even more to connect with this vital community and ensure everyone caring for a relative or loved one has access to the tools, information, and support they need, when they need it."
The new initiative will foster a community of carers to make sure that anybody caring for relatives and loved ones has the capacity to do so.
The support, which can be accessed via an online hub, comes in the following forms:
- An online peer community of carers across the UK
- Easy-to-use, self-service tools outlining the different forms of support available
- Tailor-made support guides on looking after carers’ own personal wellbeing
- Information on carers’ rights and social support law
Deborah, caring for a parent in Durham, said: "I am very grateful for the help, advice and support I have discovered. It is good to feel I am not alone and help is at hand if I need it."
More than 10% of the population in the North East are carers, which is the largest proportion of people with caring responsibilities anywhere in the UK.
