Civil servants now have easier access to a broader range of free digital learning resources, aimed at boosting productivity and agility within the government workforce.
The Government Skills curriculum has been expanded to include more digital, data, and innovation learning, specifically curated for civil servants. This initiative supports the Prime Minister's recent pledge to enhance skill development in priority areas such as digital technology.
The expanded curriculum features:
- Microsoft 365 Public Sector Training and Resources Hub: This hub provides resources to help civil servants quickly upskill in ways that align with their job roles and tasks.
- 12 ‘Pocket Watch’ Videos: Shared by the Department of Work and Pensions, these videos outline how to perform various computing tasks using PCs with Windows 10 or 11.
Deputy Director of Government Skills, Martin Petto, said:
“It’s the first time we’ve been able to give civil servants such easy access to digital skills learning.”
“If staff need help with anything, from understanding AI to simple tips to boost their productivity, such as how to set up an Excel document, this is where they’ll be able to go for help.
“It also signposts civil servants to more specialist digital and data learning, such as the pathways - some of which may be chargeable.”

Previously, the curriculum included:
- A wide range of free AI courses, including AI Fundamentals.
- Masterclasses on data and innovation, developed as part of the One Big Thing initiative.
- The Digital Excellence Programme for senior leaders.
This expanded offering is part of a drive to improve the productivity and agility of civil servants, ensuring they have the necessary skills to meet the evolving demands of their roles. More tools and learning resources will be added to the curriculum over time, further enhancing the capabilities of the government workforce.
