The Government Property Agency has announced that Practical Completion has been achieved at the new Government Hub in Croydon.
More than 5,000 civil servants from the Home Office will be based at the new Hub, migrating from three locations across Croydon in the summer of 2024. Now that Cat A construction has been completed, the GPA will take over the lease and will begin working alongside partners to fit and complete the building to Government Workplace Design Standards.
The new building is the second of its kind in the area, creating a government campus that has excellent sustainable transport links, as well as the building being fully sustainable. This sees decarbonised power and electricity being procured from renewable sources, offering a mixture of flexible and hybrid work spaces that also support neurodiversity, collaboration, and wellbeing.
Matthew Ryecroft, Home Office Permanent Secretary, said:
“This is an exciting step towards the completion of the new Home Office Croydon Hub. The site will play a major role in our work to keep the country safe, secure, and prosperous. It will provide a modern space that is sustainable, and which offers a collaborative and enjoyable working environment.
“I would like to thank all those who are working hard to make this innovative building a reality. I very much look forward to its completion next year.”
The Government Hubs programme has already seen 17 locations across the UK helping around 60,000 civil servants to be part of a ‘new smaller, better and greener’ public estate.
These locations around the United Kingdom include:
- Glasgow
- Belfast
- Newcastle
- Leeds
- Manchester
- Nottingham
- Cardiff
- Birmingham
- Peterborough
- Bristol
As part of the programme, regeneration and economic development is being supported around the country, and this news follows the news from March that saw Cabinet Office Minister Alex Burghart opening the new Peterborough hub.
