Significant strides are being made on the Wrexham and Flintshire Investment Zone, as it looks to bring in major growth and development.
This collaborative project is set to attract £1 billion in private sector investment and create 6,000 new jobs, marking a transformative period for the region.
Backed by £160 million in funding from the Welsh Government and UK Government, the Investment Zone will primarily focus on advanced manufacturing. The project aims to develop 5.5 million square feet of new capacity, addressing innovation skills and transport challenges to deliver new opportunities and investment for local and regional economies.
The Welsh Government’s Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning, Rebecca Evans, said:
“North east Wales is already home to incredible talent and expertise. Align this with the latest innovation and government support and we believe the sky is the limit for the region in terms of delivering future economic growth and good-quality jobs.
“This is a hugely exciting time for advanced manufacturing in north Wales and I am encouraged by the progress of the Wrexham and Flintshire Investment Zone and the collaborative efforts of the Corporate Joint Committee, local authorities, both governments and of course businesses in getting to this important stage.
“The Wrexham 1M scheme from FIREM is proposed to be a new tax site and aims to create high-quality industrial accommodation that will help drive job creation and add huge economic value in Wrexham. It’s another vote of confidence in what we are all trying to achieve here.”

The investment zone recently advanced with the confirmation of its industrial focus and main sites, as announced by Chancellor Rachel Reeves. One of the key sites is the Wrexham Industrial Estate, home to significant businesses and employers like JCB. FIREM's developments within the estate, including Wrexham 1M, Wrexham 152, and Bridgeway Centre, are integral to the zone's success.
FIREM is significantly expanding its presence on the Wrexham Industrial Estate through its Wrexham 1M project, which comprises one million square feet of logistics space. This project alone is expected to create 1,000 jobs and act as a catalyst for regional growth. Over the past two decades, FIREM has invested more than £136 million in the estate, underscoring its commitment to the area's development.
The Wrexham and Flintshire Investment Zone represents a major opportunity for economic growth and job creation. With a strong emphasis on advanced manufacturing and innovation, the project is poised to drive significant benefits for the local community and beyond.
