The Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) has launched a new package of support for people working with young children across our city-region.
GM REFLECT is a comprehensive training and support package designed to strengthen the skills and knowledge of those working across the early years workforce in Greater Manchester.
The first of its kind to be rolled out in the UK, the GM REFLECT framework provides a structured approach for integrated working, training, and professional development.
It is aimed at those working in settings such as early education and childcare, health services for pregnancy and early years, and voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise providers.
The framework supports the early years workforce across Greater Manchester raise standards in early years practice, offering resources including:
- A set of competencies outlining the essential skills, knowledge, and abilities for those working with children from conception to age five.
- A digital self-evaluation tool to identify skills and areas for growth.
- Free, open-access e-learning modules.
- Case studies demonstrating best practices.
- Policy alignment documents to ensure GM REFLECT supports national early years priorities.
In partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University, the GMCA has launched a series of free, open-access e-learning modules designed to strengthen the skills and knowledge of professionals working in early years.

The modules address key aspects of child development and engagement with families, reflecting Greater Manchester's ambition of improving school readiness.
