Ipswich Borough Council is proud to have signed the Power of Youth Charter, the first Town in England to do so, supporting the efforts to make Ipswich a Town of Youth Social Action.
The signatory reinforces the Council’s commitment to listening to what young people have to say and empowering them to take action as part of the government’s new approach to the National Youth Strategy.
The Council is supporting the #iWill movement encouraging young people to complete an online survey as part of the ‘Deliver You’ campaign by 16 April 2025 to give their views.
Ipswich has also been selected as one of the six locations in the country to host a ‘Hack’ event inviting 10-21 year olds (up to 25 years old for SEND) to have their say about the issues important to them, how they use local services and what they want from them.
Feedback from the survey and the Hack session on 2 May will help to shape a new 10-year National Youth Strategy.
Neil MacDonald, Leader of Ipswich Borough Council, said: “We’re delighted that Ipswich has been selected as one of only a handful of locations across the country giving young people an opportunity to come along to an in-person event and have their say about their experiences.
“Young people themselves are in the best position to tell us about the support services, facilities and opportunities they need to benefit their lives and futures.”
“Putting their views at the centre of decision-making will help us to deliver better coordinated youth services and policy at a local level.”
