Chesterfield Borough Council has announced that it has acquired a host of new affordable homes, increasing the supply available to families in the borough.
A total of 12 homes have been acquired by the council, from local housebuilders and will be made available for families on the housing register to rent.
The homes are two-bedroom and for a part of a new housing development at Harehill mews in Grangewood. Not only will these homes allow families on the housing register to live somewhere that is affordable but comfortable, they will also contribute to the council’s own goals of carbon reduction, thanks to their energy efficiency.
Cabinet member for housing, Cllr Chris Ludlow, said:
“We are fully committed to increasing the supply of affordable housing across the borough and meeting the housing needs of local people – now and in the future. We are pleased that the acquisition of these properties is complete, as they will provide affordable, modern and accessible homes for our families.
“It’s important that any homes we build or purchase take into account environmental issues and are energy efficient for our tenants. Living in a warm and energy efficient home is not only better for our plant, but it will also reduce costs to run the property, offering affordable warmth to our tenants.”
Families have now been allocated their homes, and are in the process of moving in.
