Wave of strikes planned tomorrow
Hundreds of thousands of public sector workers will protest against measures affecting their pensions in a day of action tomorrow.
Health workers, MoD personnel, immigration staff, civil servants, off-duty policy officers, lecturers and many others will join walk-outs and demonstrations, which could involve up to 400,000 people, according to union leaders.
Serving police officers are banned from striking under law. The Police Federation, which represents rank-and-file officers, said those marching tomorrow will wear black caps, to represent the number of officers the public will lose over four years as a result of the cuts: 16,000.
Unite's assistant general secretary, Gail Cartmail, said the demonstrations tomorrow will build on the anger that was on display during the November 30 strikes last year.
